ROMA II

In 2008, I received a commission from Francesca Fabiani, the then Curator of Photography at the Museo Nazionale del XXI secolo in Rome, which was still under construction. I arrived without a set plan. Francesca Fabiani guided me around the museum’s construction site, which was already at an advanced stage. The vast open spaces were filled with objects that struck me as quite beautiful, reminiscent of art inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s Ready-Mades.

Inspired by this idea, I decided to document the site as if it were a contemporary art exhibition. I captured the process of the exhibition being installed by art installers and the curator. Every visit has been a journey of spontaneity, free from fixed itineraries and guided by curiosity. I focused on newly built areas, avoiding tourist crowds and exploring contemporary sites like Stazione Tiburtina. Whether on assignment or simply wandering, I am always searching for the invisible threads that connect the ever-changing urban landscape—a shifting stage set—to the people who inhabit it, the true protagonists of this evolving visual theatre.
