BERLIN, 1990
1990 was a historic year — for the world and for me. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Gabriele Basilico was assigned to photograph the city, following the wall’s path before it was dismantled. Normally, he traveled with his assistant Gianni Nigro, but since Gianni was on holiday, Gabriele asked me to join him. I followed Gabriele on that journey, and he became the protagonist of this strange landscape shaped by the collapse of the communist regime. Later, I returned on my own and continued exploring the city’s efforts to rebuild — searching for relics of the fallen regime and witnessing the first signs of reconstruction.
